Strategy #1: Find where your website is leaking leads and fix it
One of the fastest and easiest ways to get more leads without having to attract more traffic to your website is to find where leads are being leaked and patch the hole. Here are two examples:
- Which webpages are causing visitors to leave
If you are using a web analytics program to track how website visitors use the website (like Google Analytics), you can see which page(s) is the last page visitors view before leaving the website. These are called exit pages.
In Google Analytics you can go to Content > Site Content > Exit Pages to see this report and quickly identify the top webpages that are leaking leads and implement some of the strategies below.
|Tip: If your website does not have an analytics program installed to track the behavior of your website visitors, that needs to be a top priority. Otherwise, it’s impossible to tell how well your website is making (or losing you) money.|
- Which emails are not being read
If you are sending out emails (which hopefully you are or you are also leaving leads on the table), which emails are generating the least number of opens? In order to generate more leads, find underperforming emails and resend the same emails with a new subject line to the subscribers who didn’t open.
To find this, simply login to your email marketing provider, and next to each email you will see statistics including the open rate, click-thru rate, etc.
Strategy #2: Give visitors a reason to stick around
Once a website visitor leaves your website, it’s hard to get them back. There is one really effective strategy for getting them back (we’ll cover that next), however, we want to capture the contact information of as many website visitors as possible.
One of the fastest ways to increase the number of leads you have is to add 1-2 ways to convert cold website traffic into warm lead in. This is referred to as a call to action. This can come in the form of:
- Targeted offer (promotions, etc.)
- Sign-up (schedule a consultation, subscribe for a discount for first service)
- Opt-in (download with valuable tips that will lead visitor towards becoming paying customer)
- Phone number to encourage visitors to take action (or live chat, request a call, etc.)
|Bonus tip: If you’re not sure where to start, find out which of your pages are the most popular and start with those as that is where you will see the biggest impact. If you’re using Google Analytics, from your dashboard go to Behavior » Site Content » Landing Pages|
Strategy #3: Build your advertising list with 10 minutes of work
I bet you already know Facebook ads exist. But did you know that you can start collecting warm leads of people who have visited your website even if you aren’t using Facebook ads?
This is done with Facebook Pixel and it takes about 10 minutes to set-up. Then the next time you have a promotion, valuable piece of content or anything else you’d like to instantly put in front of the eyes of potential customers, you can run a (retargeting) ad specifically to this targeted list. These ads are typically much less expensive than targeting cold leads so it’s a huge win.
